Summary:
Having had the opportunity to go to Tokyo in May 2023, I' was able to visit the museum TeamLab Planets during this journey.
I had the opportunity to discover this museum thanks to the influencers that I I followed on Instagram (a bit like everyone else you might say!). In any case I must say that I was not disappointed because (SPOILER ALERT) I really loved this museum! On the other hand, there are a few important things to keep in mind before going there.
The pros of Teamlab Planets museum
TeamLab Planets Tokyo proposes a one-of-a-kind experience where you can see immerse yourself in digital art installations. The exhibits are designed to appeal to all your senses in several colored universes.
Integration of nature and technology
This art museum harmoniously combines art, technology and nature. You can witness the harmonious combination of digital projections and physical elements such as water, lights and mirrors, creating a unique and fascinating experience.
Interaction and participation
Unlike traditional museums, TeamLab Planets Tokyo encourages visitors to actively engage in artwork. You can touch, browse, and even become part of the art itself. This interactive aspect allows for a more immersive and personal connection with the exhibitions.
The cons of Teamlab Planets museum
One is disappointed when it ends
After such a great experience, I must say that I was fairly surprised when the museum ended. The experience is quite short (between 1 hour and 1 hour 30 minutes), and I would have liked to have been told more clearly that we were approaching the end of the museum. It stroke me on how hard it was to go back to reality after that!
Don't expect to be alone in the rooms
This photo below speaks for itself but to summarise, although the museum works with a group system (you have to register online and come at a specific time), please note that you will still be surrounded by a crowd of tourists (like you).
In all cases, being surrounded by people - especially in tourist places - have been a something that we have experience quite often during our 15 days in Japan, and (let it be said), this was not really a problem during the visit.
Orchids can't be always looking good
One of the main images of the museum is the orchid room (image below).
This room is lush and magnificent, I can assure you.
But don't expect to have orchids as colourful as in the photo. These are real living plants. When we visited the museum in May 2023, the flowers had already had the opportunity to see a lot of people... and it must be said that they were quite damaged.
To summarise, TeamLab Planets Tokyo offers visitors an extraordinary and transformative journey through digital art immersive, making it a must-visit destination for art enthusiasts, tech enthusiasts, and anyone looking for a truly unique experience.
However, each museum has its pros and cons and I hope I was able to share with you my humble opinion on the TeamLabs Planets Museum!
In any case, as a final word: I recommend!
